3. Reboot your system.

or

To restore the original Xorg configuration file:
1. Locate backup configuration files: ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original-*
2. Take the latest version with the highest number and copy it over the existing
3. xorg.conf file: cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original-<number> /etc/X11/xorg.conf

The lab desktop computers have onboard ATI Radeon 4250 or 4290 graphic cards. Here's how to install the ATI catalyst driver: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/linux_cat108-inst.pdf

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.36&lang=English

1. Go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
2. Integrated Motherboard Graphics -> Radeon Intergrated HD Series -> Radeon 4200 HD Series -> Linux x86_64
3. sh ./ati-driver-installer-10-8-x86.x86_64.run

Use Custom (Automatic) Installation option
or Package Generation option and select SLES11, this generates a RPM file (Note, if this is a driver upgrade, make sure to remove the old driver using yast2), then yast2 -i RPM_file

4. Modify /etc/modprobe.d/unsupported-modules and set allow_unsupported_modules to 1.

this is the KEY step!!!

5. /usr/bin/aticonfig --initial -f

6. Reboot

If have to rebuild kernel module, do:

0. Install the kernel-source and gcc.

1. Download and install the catalyst control center as described on ATI’s web-page.

2. Modify /etc/modprobe.d/unsupported_modules and set allow_unsupported_modules to 1.

either

3. run fglrx-kernel-build.sh

or

3. cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod

4. run ./make.sh

5. cd ..

6. run ./make_install.sh

then reboot
